What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Contact forms
Our booking forms collect the minimum information possible to allow us to operate our business. The data entered does not get stored in the website database but is sent as an email. Booking details are then transferred to our internal booking system. No third party ever gets access to the internal booking system. Utilising this data we may contact you again when you’re next service or MOT is due.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
We utilise Google Analytics which will set a cookie on your device to tie it to our website in order for Google to track your interaction with our site.
Who we share your data with
Google Analytics
Our website has Google Analytics installed to track user interaction. This enables us to offer a better service by viewing how users interact with our site and which pages are visited. All the data we access through the Google Analytics Admin is anonymised, there is no access to your personal details for us as a Google Analytics user. However Google will be able to view more personal data by linking your interaction with our site to your Google profile or other tracking capabilities they implement.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
Booking data is stored indefinately in our internal system. Email contacts are stored for long periods but deleted periodically to free up server space for more current email contact.
What rights you have over your data
If you have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service, otherwise no third party has access to your data, other than our web designer who may access email accounts if there are technical difficulties with sending or receiving emails that need resolving.
